As the economic citizenship industry continues to compel a captive audience internationally, Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr the Honourable Timothy Harris, has today announced an investment summit to be hosted by their pioneering Citizenship by Investment Programme.
The Summit will bring together all five Caribbean nations that currently provide citizenship by investment programmes in a combined effort to lead constructive debate on the industry’s most important issues.
The theme central to this event is ‘Unity in the Age of Division, Emerging Trends of CIPs in an Uncertain World’, focusing on industry best practice, as well as the current geopolitical climate and its associated impact. The Summit will stimulate an exchange of ideas to better understand how the economic citizenship industry will, and should, move forward.
The Summit will be based at the St Kitts Marriott Resort from 16-19 May, and will include two days of speakers and panels, sessions with local developers, and island tours.
The CEO of the St Kitts and Nevis Citizenship by Investment Unit, Les Khan, believes the event will be important locally, as well as internationally, for the industry:
“The Caribbean Investment Summit is not only relevant to our regional partners here in the Caribbean. From its inception the event has been designed to attract an international dialogue.”
Khan stressed the need for the industry to unite and proactively discuss the biggest challenges facing the future of the industry:
“The conversations and challenges that the Caribbean region is facing, and has faced in the past, are not dissimilar to those seen on a global scale. This is a perfect opportunity for the industry to unite, and hold constructive debates on the issues of today, and prospects of tomorrow.”
Speaking topics such as transparency versus confidentiality, and how international policies such as Common Reporting Standard may influence or alter practices in the industry are on the agenda. Climate resilience will also be a major talking point, with sustainable development a key consideration in the area. The Summit will also delve into the area of technology and how new practices such as blockchain will be regulated in the industry.
With Heads of States and Government officials from all five islands already committed to attending, the Summit is expected to attract key industry stakeholders.
