St Kitts and Nevis and Mozambique Establish Diplomatic Relations

As part of its agenda to extend its global network of friends and allies, on 9 November St Kitts and Nevis formalised relations with Mozambique, also a member of the Commonwealth of Nations.

The official documentation pertaining to the establishment of relations between the two nations was signed by H.E. Dr Kevin Isaac, who is St Kitts and Nevis’ High Commissioner in London, and by his counterpart, H.E. Filipe Chidumo, who has been High Commissioner in London for the Republic of Mozambique since February 2016.

Mr Chidumo said the move would cement the relationship between Mozambique and the Caribbean Federation, enabling them to build on their previous collaboration with Commonwealth states. Dr Isaac noted that the event was “another important step in allowing our two countries to build greater awareness about opportunities for our peoples and to benefit from our shared experiences and cooperation.”

Some of the issues that already raise shared interest by the two nations include sustainable development, and the difficulties faced by small nations when seeking to grow and achieve their goals.

The signing ceremony took place at the St Kitts and Nevis High Commission, located in London’s Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
