St Kitts and Nevis and Laos Open Diplomatic Relations

Laos – a landlocked nation bordering China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, and Myanmar – is St Kitts and Nevis’ newest addition to the list of countries with which it has recently opened diplomatic dialogue.

The ceremony marking the beginning of diplomatic relations was held on 23 September, on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City.

His Excellency Saleumxay Kommasith, who is Laos’ Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Honourable Mark Brantley, Foreign Minister for St Kitts and Nevis, both headed the momentous event, which marks a milestone in St Kitts and Nevis’ policy to improve its South-South bilateral cooperation and to expand its overall diplomatic reach.

Possibility of even more visa-free destinations for Citizens of St Kitts and Nevis

The two Ministers also discussed the possibility that a new visa-free travel arrangement may be concluded between their two nations – a prospect that the Minister from Laos was enthusiastic about.

Citizens of St Kitts and Nevis can travel extensively across the world, and the possibility of even more visa-free destinations is one that is highly welcome in the country.
